Shes cool like that. If you like jazzy hip hop, you need to pick up that first Digable Planets. Ladybug is kind of dope for the time period. She receives an honorable mention for a dope femcee.

I dont agree with this one. Ladybug damn near ruined one of my favorite tracks by them [ "Dog it" ] . And when i look back at most of there stand out tracks , she never stood out in any of them . Yea she had a jazzy voice and attitude and definitely fuckable but as far as actual lyrical skill and delivery , in my opinion she sucked. like i said "Dog It " had a banging beat and her verse was f#ckin horrible and I dont know if it was just a lack of talent lyrically or just a flat out lack of effort. And i'm not trying to make an opinion on her entire career based off one song , its just TO ME , this one song is an example of how she flowed on most of their banging tracks.
here is her verse from that song. And if you hear the audio you will find it hard to detect where she is actually RHYMING. Its like the bitch was just talking on the beat.
[disregard the "funk da funk" lines] <--Just a semi/hook Butterfly also spit in his verse.
Eric ???? always hits me with the live stuff Bahamadia back the sounds with the love love T.J. and Lisa real peoples 89 and still In Fort Green on diamond back is where I'm at Feelin' da funk da funk that's in the trunk the trunk I feel the funk da funk, feelin' the funk da funk I'm feelin' funk da funk I'm in the trunk da trunk Feelin' da funk da funk, I am the funk I raise everyday for the mass Tote my fist right up right against the fascist Descend to my borough digs my diction It's way on time So watch fifth line still shining I'm left this year a player In my vein lives bell hooks Derrick Bell, Reggie Butler See Marvin knew it, and Sly knew it Cube know it and now we do it outta Brooklyn Outta sight brown sandals in M.C.s with angles Commit to street corners where players be jayin I'm saying a Digable swinger Word to mouth brought the clout 'specially in the summer We vanish like vapor Burn paper We deal real-real so chill We linger in the funk

zen denying his exploits like big bill clinton........here is his direct qoute from the his forum thread entitled Ice T / Lil Wayne in the podcast afterparty section of the forum
Quote :
I remember listening to either the last ep or the one before , and the topic of Ice T's career came up and i felt like you guys were giving him some unfair criticism . In suggesting that lyrically he was wack , make sure you are not comparing him to todays lyricists and the greatest of all time. But he was dope back in the day no question "back in that era". Lets be fror real , who were YOU listening to back in 86' 87'? .... i thought so. Dont get me wrong my opinion is not biased, i live in the south and ive only owned only 2 Ice T albums and of course the New Jack City soundtrack. but the dude definitely is a first ballot hip hop hall of famer.

your words are in bold dumbass......you said they were calling him lyically wack and you felt the need to reply and stand up for him calling him dope back in the day....you don't remember?????
This has everything to do with your argument that ladybug is wack because of her lyrics and how she ruined songs for you....was Ice T not wack lyrically? Was his fame and respect mainly based on his gangsta persona....if so....it is unfair for you to say that ladybug is wack....although her lyrics are not the best.....she had a persona too that fit well on wax and made digable's music better with her.......so as you posted her lyrics as an example and I must admit they are not great...here are your boy's ....

dude wtf iz your problem.
f#ckin grow up man...."michaelgraham wins another argument by proving that other people's opinions are dumb to him and his alternate lifestyle having peers!" "Yay!"
...the F#CK outta here!
again... for those who can read , yes , in my opinion Ice T was "dope" BACK IN THE DAY. I didnt say his entire f#cking music career, i didnt say every track he ever spit onand His "gangster persona" didnt have a damn thing to do with why I liked him. He WAAAAS a dope rapper TO MEEEEE!!!!
Now if me feeling like Ice T WAAAS dope back in 87 - 91 makes all my opinions on hip hop invalid to you , then go ahaed and consider yourself the winner of this argument , and every other argument we have from now on dealing with hip hop ok. Az a matter of fact this means theres really no need for us to argue about ANYTHING anymore. To you , all my opinions are invalid and dumb because i thought Ice T was dope back in the day. lol

now like i was saying before i was side-tracked by the bitch boy...
i dont wanna base my opinion on the babe because of a few tracks i've heard her spit on , she may have some fire shit on some lost underground albums deep in some DJ's crates for all i know. And im not hatin on her either i really wanted her to be dope its just she never really wound up being that to me. She spit alot of deep shit and metaphors but the delivery was poor. Maybe she would have been better served as a spoken word poet or something rather than rhyming to beats.
Now this chick right here was a spitter. Formerly known as Isis , Lin Que was a dope female lyricist to me who was out around the same time as ladybug. And yes ...she crushes ladybug lyrically. I just hate that nothing much came from her after this. At least on this scale.

ICE-T was as dope as catnip.....maybe a couple decent songs his whole career
you said you like his realness which I interpert as gangsta-ness= his gangsta persona, without that he had little influential impact musically on hip-hop
so go write me another bitch made poem.......and keep bumping that ICE-T

Yo! mic-g ..seriously , lets try to cut back on the insults and have a grown up discussion or debate for a change huh...Our statements would make much better reading without "you bitch!" , "you dumbass" in every other sentence. .
Us having our first black president has lately made me wanna stop easily trashing my fellow brothaz and sistaz [white or black] and makes me wanna be a better citizen and a more positive contributor to society.
Consider all things squashed from my end...ah ite.
And az much as i hate to agree wit ya ass...yea Lauryn Hill was the shit lyrically and in all other phazes az well. I know that first verse , that was from "ready or not" ....yea!!!!
and it waznt just Ice T's realness that made him dope to me, it was how he rhymed , what he rhymed about ,animated story-tellin skills , beat selection , him dissin LL , alot of shit. The dude was dope to me [period]
ha ha you like how Zen was the 1st to be the bigger man in the situation!!!

It could have been fallin in love or gettin sprung that f#cked up her career or maybe some artists / entertainers cant handle it once they reach a certain amount of success.
look at dave chapelle , at one time he was the most sought after comedian on the planet , on the rise , 50 million dollar deal on the table then he dissappeared and and hasnt really been seen anywhere.[ have my own opinion of why he turned down that deal too but thats another issue]
look at Katt williams , he was on the rise recently , new dvd ads everywhere , potential tour with steve harvey , now i hear he was booted from hosting the BET hiphop awards for actin crazy , and he was recently caught up in ANOTHER stange behavior incident that has lead his family to try to have him committed for psycological issues.
Some folks cant handle a high level of success in the public eye.

Whoa... I know you just wrapped up an ahhr forum battle of epic proportions but that wasn't an attack Zen, just making the qoute short!
It is always interesting how people listen to their music. I usually have to listen to albums in their entirety unless I'm in the gym and unless the album just has no cohesiveness whatsoever. When I am in the gym I do try to keep the same tempo and I will actually listen to singles. As far as genres go, I haven't, as of yet, been able to actually mix them. If I'm in a Rap mood, I have to listen to all rap, Soul mood all Soul music, Rock mood all Rock music, etc... I eat tend to eat the same way. Veggies, then rice and gravy, then the meat... never mixing them...

^^ Yo , I'm kinda the same way.
I dont listen to those playlists in that consecutive order , thats just in general what i'm listenin to. Many of which i just forgot and left out.
But When I make cds to listen to in my ride i cant make a cd with a few rap songs here some R&B there and a few rock tracks, that I CANT DO!!! ...It has to strictly be ONE genre on ONE cd , If its some new hip hop then the whole 15 track cd iz NEW HIP HOP , and no ol' skool joints thrown in . If its ol' skool , then its all gotta be ol skool , rock , all rock etc. The only exception is when I'm in a rush and Im throwin some quick shit together and i got a blank cd to waste.
But the playlists i use on my zune/mp3 workin out are diffrent. I might be in a L.L. cool J mode when I'm doin Arm curls .. a James Bond theme mode when I'm doin shoulder lifts... a nirvana mode when Im bench-pressin ... a black super hero mode when im cranking that Shaft theme song while running up a hill or incline .. or all vice versa you feel me.
